The HealthMate Plus by Austin Air Purifiers is a level up from the standard HealthMate HM400. The plus has the addition of potassium iodide impregnated into the carbo for added chemical absorption. This helps remove most chemicals from the air including but not limited to off-gassing of furniture, cleaners and formaldehyde.  It is most popular for those with sensitivities to airborne particles and volatile organic compounds where not just particles affect you but smells too.  With a 400 CFM (cubic feet per minute) fan you can expect this air purifier to clean an average size bedroom in about 15 minutes.  Starting from the outside you will notice that these machines are made of solid steel.  The reason for this is Austin Air believes in using as little plastic as possible benefiting those who are sensitive to chemicals and off gassing that can occur from plastic and Styrofoam.  The bodies are painted with a baked on powder coating to ensure that all chemicals and gasses are eliminated throughout the baking process.  That way when you open the box you won't have to wait for your new air purifier to off-gas in your home.  Even the casters and switch knob have been off-gassed in the factory before being installed.
